Germany: Jürgen Klopp imposes new rules on the Mannschaft from his first camp

Jürgen Klopp has begun his tenure at the helm of the Germany national team with several changes to the Mannschaft’s daily routine. For his first camp, the new head coach wants greater punctuality, fewer distractions and, above all, more time spent together.

Klopp and his staff have established new rules regarding meals, the use of mobile phones, visits from relatives and hairdressing services within the team’s quarters. The measures, reported by the German press, notably Sport Bild, change some habits that had become established in recent years.

Meals taken together at a set time

Dinner is becoming one of the main moments of collective life. Players must now be at the table at the time set by the staff, around 7 or 8 p.m. depending on the day’s schedule.

For Klopp, the meal should not be viewed as simply a time devoted to eating. The head coach wants the internationals to use these gatherings to talk to one another, get to know each other better and strengthen the bonds within the group.

Phones put aside before matches

Players must also put their mobile phones aside during certain phases before matches. The measure applies in particular to periods devoted to match preparation, such as gym sessions, massages and the warm-up.

Klopp wants the players to remain focused on the match and use these periods to communicate with their teammates and members of the staff.

This is not a general ban on phones during the camp. The rule mainly concerns moments when the group must be fully focused on the upcoming match.

Hairdressers no longer allowed at the hotel

Klopp has also put an end to another habit. Players can no longer bring their hairdresser to the training centre or the team hotel.

The practice is now banned within the team’s quarters. The internationals must therefore arrange their hair appointments outside the camp.

Family visits more closely regulated

The presence of family members and relatives is also one of the habits Klopp wants to change. Players will no longer be able to receive their relatives as freely as before during camps.

Visits must now be more organized and remain limited. The aim is to preserve time for team life and national-team activities.

This approach contrasts with the more flexible system that existed under Julian Nagelsmann, particularly regarding certain aspects of daily life.

Klopp wants to strengthen team life

Behind these various measures lies one common idea: Klopp wants players to spend more time together when they are gathered with the Mannschaft.

Shared meals, restrictions on phones and the regulation of outside visits should encourage exchanges between the internationals. For the new head coach, team cohesion is not built solely on the pitch or during training sessions.
