Ghana: Antoine Semenyo leaves squad ahead of 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers

Antoine Semenyo will not take part in Ghana’s upcoming matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Manchester City forward has left the Black Stars’ camp due to an ankle problem, according to reports from 3Sports.

The player is reportedly suffering from a swollen ankle, which puts his participation in the upcoming international fixtures in doubt. Ghana are due to face Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké on September 24, before hosting Gambia in Accra on September 29.

Semenyo ruled out after his brace for Manchester City

The withdrawal comes just days after Semenyo’s impressive performance for Manchester City. The Ghanaian forward scored twice and provided an assist in the Citizens’ 5-3 victory over Sunderland on September 20.

His absence is a setback for Carlos Queiroz, who is preparing to officially launch Ghana’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. The Portuguese coach acknowledged that his squad had been affected by several fitness issues and that solutions had been planned to cover the absences.

Uncertainty surrounding Baba Rahman

Another report circulating in Ghana concerns Baba Rahman, who has also reportedly left the camp. This information has not yet been confirmed by the Ghana Football Association or by a sufficiently reliable source.

Baba Rahman was still included in the 24-player squad announced by Carlos Queiroz for the first two qualifying matches, and sources published in recent days continue to list him in the group.

Caution is therefore advised regarding his potential withdrawal. If his departure from the camp is confirmed in the coming hours, it would be another absence for Carlos Queiroz ahead of the trip to Bouaké.
