Ghana joins Nigeria at the top of Africa's most prolific World Cup teams

Ghana has etched its name even deeper into African football history. With their goal against Panama at the 2026 World Cup, the Ghanaian national team has now reached 23 goals at the tournament—a tally that sees them draw level with Nigeria at the summit of Africa’s most effective attacking nations on the global stage.

Until now, Nigeria held the top spot alone with 23 goals scored across six appearances (1994, 1998, 2002, 2010, 2014, and 2018). But Ghana, with just four participations (2006, 2010, 2014, and 2026), has closed the gap thanks to a consistently sharp and efficient attacking generation.

With this latest goal, the Black Stars now boast 23 World Cup goals netted by 14 different scorers, with Asamoah Gyan standing as Ghana’s all-time top scorer at the tournament with 6 goals.

Trailing this leading duo is Cameroon, sitting third with 22 goals, followed by Senegal in fourth place with 17 strikes.
