Ghana: Otto Addo breaks his silence for the first time after leaving the Black Stars

The former head coach of the Ghana Otto Addo says he never received an official explanation for his dismissal and highlights the tense relationship he had with the Ghana Football Association executives.

Several months after stepping down as head of the Black Stars, Otto Addo has spoken out about the circumstances surrounding his sacking. Speaking as a guest on the podcast Fußball, mein Leben, the Ghanaian tactician revealed that he still does not know why he was let go by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

"Honestly, to this day, no one has ever given me a reason, and to be honest, I never asked for one either."

The 51-year-old coach explained that his two-year tenure in charge of the national team was fraught with tension with the president of the GFA and certain members of the executive committee.

"There were constant back-and-forths between me, the president of the Federation, and the board. Sometimes I felt like I could be fired after just a month."

Otto Addo also believes that the expectations placed on him were exceptionally high, suggesting that the pressure from the leadership weighed heavily on his tenure.

As a reminder, the Ghana Football Association officially parted ways with him just 78 days before the Black Stars' opening match at the 2026 World Cup—a decision that sparked widespread reaction throughout the African football community.
