Ghana Premier League: Asante Kotoko new leader!

The 22nd matchday of the Ghana Premier League was full of twists and turns. While the clash between Gold Stars and Hearts of Oak ended in a draw, Asante Kotoko managed to stand out and seize the top spot.

Anticipated as the highlight of the weekend, the encounter between Gold Stars and Hearts of Oak kept spectators on the edge of their seats.

The contest was fiercely contested, with few clear opportunities. It wasn't until the 79th minute that Gideon Anaba converted a penalty to give the Golden Boys the lead. However, in the dying moments of stoppage time, Hearts of Oak snatched an equalizer through an Appiah Asare effort (90+2').

This draw keeps Gold Stars in 2nd place with 41 points, while the Phobians remain in 4th place with 37 points.

Asante Kotoko gets the job done!

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko returned to winning ways after two matches without success. Facing Holy Stars, the Porcupine Warriors got the job done. A quick goal by Samuel Tenedu (14') was enough to seal their triumph.

Thanks to this performance, Asante Kotoko takes the top of the standings with 42 points, edging out Gold Stars by one point. Holy Stars, on the other hand, remain in a precarious position with 24 points, three points away from the relegation zone.

Below is the table of the Ghana Premier League after the 22nd matchday:

  1. Asante Kotoko: 42 points
  2. Gold Stars: 41 points
  3. Heart of Lions: 37 points
  4. Hearts of Oak: 37 points
  5. Bechem United: 36 points
