According to Marca, the Gabonese forward, now 37 years of age, is facing a spell on the sidelines of roughly two months after damaging the meniscus in his right knee. The injury was picked up when Deportivo met Real Betis in La Liga on September 20, a contest that finished level at 1-1.

The player's condition was first assessed through an MRI scan carried out on Monday, after which he made the trip to Madrid for a more thorough round of medical checks. Those examinations ultimately revealed that the meniscus had indeed been damaged, leaving surgery as the only viable course of action. The operation has now been pencilled in for Thursday, September 24.
