Cameroon: Bryan Mbeumo named captain of the Indomitable Lions against Comoros

Bryan Mbeumo will wear the armband for the Indomitable Lions against Comoros this Thursday in Garoua. David Pagou confirmed his decision at a press conference on Wednesday, on the eve of this match in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.

The Cameroon head coach did not keep the suspense going when he was asked about the identity of the captain.

“Without saying too much, Bryan Mbeumo will be captain,” David Pagou told the media.

The Manchester United striker will be supported by Arthur Avom and Samuel Kotto, who have been appointed vice-captains for this match. Mbeumo will therefore wear the armband when Cameroon face Comoros at the Roumdé Adjia Stadium in Garoua.

The decision comes as several regular senior players are not part of the squad called up for this international break. Pagou is therefore entrusting this responsibility to Mbeumo, who is one of the key attacking players in his setup.

Mbeumo succeeds Nouhou Tolo

Bryan Mbeumo succeeds Nouhou Tolo, who was the captain of the Indomitable Lions at AFCON 2025. The Cameroon defender notably wore the armband during the competition held in Côte d’Ivoire. For this international break, Nouhou Tolo is not part of the squad called up by David Pagou. The armband therefore goes to Mbeumo, with Arthur Avom and Samuel Kotto as his deputies.

Against Comoros, Bryan Mbeumo will therefore be the first captain chosen by David Pagou since he took charge of the Indomitable Lions.
