NPFL: Rangers beat Kwara United to tighten grip on top spot
Rangers International have maintained their impressive start to the Nigeria Premier Football League season, with another narrow victory keeping them ahead of their title rivals.
Chimezie delivers decisive moment
Victor Chimezie scored five minutes before half-time to secure a 1-0 win over Kwara United at the Awka Township Stadium on Sunday.
The midfielder found the net in the 40th minute, giving the Flying Antelopes a lead they protected until the final whistle.
Kwara United failed to find an equaliser as Fidelis Ilechukwu's side collected another three points in front of their home supporters.
Rangers extend advantage at the summit
The victory takes Rangers to 24 points from 11 matches, strengthening their position at the top of the standings.
The champions had returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Bendel Insurance in their rescheduled Matchday 9 fixture, courtesy of Chidozie Iwundu's second-half header.
That followed a 1-1 draw against Rivers United in Port Harcourt on November 1, a match Rangers finished with 10 men after Godwin Obaje was sent off.
Rangers will next face Niger Tornadoes on November 15.
