The celebrations following Nigeria's breakthrough at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup have brought an early financial reward for the victorious squad.

Flamingos receive $50,000 cash reward

Nigeria's Flamingos have received a $50,000 cash reward from Alhaji Saleh Ahmadu, a sponsor of the National Sports Commission (NSC), during a special reception held on Saturday night.

The presentation followed the team's historic campaign in Morocco, where they secured Nigeria's first-ever title in the competition.

Several dignitaries attended the event, including NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko, Director-General Bukola Olopade and Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

More incentives expected for world champions

The $50,000 reward is expected to be followed by additional incentives from other stakeholders in recognition of the team's achievement.

The Flamingos defeated Japan 2-1 in Saturday's final in Sale, completing a landmark run for Nigerian women's youth football.

Their triumph represents a major breakthrough after previous campaigns in which Nigeria had fallen short of winning the trophy.

It also adds to the country's growing success in women's football, following the Super Falcons' 10th Women's Africa Cup of Nations title last year.
