Against Comoros, Cameroon could field three players with very different profiles in its attacking setup. The probable line-ups published ahead of the match place Bryan Mbeumo and Christian Kofane in attacking roles, while Danny Namaso could play deeper, as part of the midfield three.

Namaso should act as a link between midfield and attack. He could drop deep to help build play, find spaces between the lines and make forward runs when Cameroon have the ball. Mbeumo, meanwhile, could start on one side before cutting inside or attacking the space in behind. Up front, Kofane would be tasked with putting pressure on the centre-backs and occupying the box.

Namaso in a deeper role

The positioning of Namaso will be closely watched. The Cameroonian forward is not expected to play as a traditional centre-forward. Positioned in midfield, he could be involved in the initial build-up, drop deep to receive the ball and move closer to Kofane during attacking phases.

On one side, Mbeumo can use his ability to beat his marker, cut inside and attack space. Those qualities could prove useful against a team sitting deep. Kofane, for his part, would occupy the central striking role. The young forward is one of the new faces in the squad led by Pagou and could face his first test with the Indomitable Lions in this context.

Little time to work on combinations

The main question now concerns their understanding. The Cameroon squad was assembled late. Mbeumo and Namaso arrived on Monday evening, while Kofane joined up with the national team on Tuesday morning. The coaching staff therefore had only a few sessions to prepare for this match with the full squad.

The movements of the three players will need to click quickly. Namaso will have to find space without occupying the areas used by Mbeumo or Kofane, while the two attacking players will need to coordinate their movements to open gaps in the final third.

The reaction after losing the ball will also be closely scrutinised. Against a compact opponent capable of quickly moving forward after winning possession, Cameroon will have to avoid leaving too much space.
