Hungary: former Premier League star Ákos Buzsáky missing for a week

The former Hungarian international Ákos Buzsáky has been missing since August 18. Hungarian police have launched a search.

Concern is mounting for Ákos Buzsáky. The 44-year-old former midfielder for Queens Park Rangers, Plymouth Argyle and Portsmouth has not been seen since August 18, according to official information released by Hungarian police and reported by The Sun. The search is ongoing to locate the former Hungarian international, whose disappearance remains unexplained for now.

A disappearance worrying his family

Buzsáky's relatives have also been taken aback by the situation. Speaking to Hungarian media outlet Blikk, his father, Ákos Buzsáky Sr., explained that he was not aware of the police search for his son.

"I didn't know that the police were also looking for my son," he revealed.

He added that the former footballer spends a lot of time in Greece, where he works as an entrepreneur in the construction sector. In fact, he reportedly spent almost the entire last year there.

Buzsáky's family situation could also explain the difficulty in getting news from him quickly. His father noted that they do not live under the same roof and therefore communicate less regularly.

"The last time I spoke to him was last week, when he was at home," he added.

His mother is reportedly also searching for him and may have reported his disappearance to the authorities in recent days.

A former Premier League figure

Before his disappearance, Ákos Buzsáky had made a name for himself in English football. The Hungarian notably impressed at Plymouth Argyle and Queens Park Rangers, where his technical skills and creativity in midfield stood out.

With QPR, he celebrated promotion to the Premier League and played in the 2011-2012 top-flight season, scoring two goals during that campaign.

Buzsáky later played for Portsmouth in League One, where he ended his professional career in 2013. As a Hungarian international, he also earned several caps for his national team.

Thirteen years after hanging up his boots, the former player is now at the center of a worrying search. For his family and former supporters, the goal is now to find him as soon as possible.
