Inter Miami dreams of pairing Kevin De Bruyne with Lionel Messi
Inter Miami continues its strategy of signing world-class stars. According to mundodeportivo, the Florida club has reignited its pursuit of Kevin De Bruyne and aims to bring the Belgian midfielder together with Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, Rodrigo De Paul, and Casemiro, who is also reportedly on the American franchise's radar.
After turning down approaches from Inter Miami and San Diego FC in the summer of 2025 to continue his career in Europe, the 35-year-old Belgian could finally be tempted by a new adventure in Major League Soccer. Besides Inter Miami, Chicago Fire and San Diego FC are also monitoring his situation, but David Beckham's club currently appears to be the most determined to close the deal.
A mixed first season in Naples
Arriving on a free transfer to Napoli after ten seasons at Manchester City, Kevin De Bruyne hasn't quite hit the same heights that made him one of the premier midfielders of his generation. Hindered by his age and the adaptation to a new league, the Belgian international has nevertheless maintained his technical prowess and vision on the pitch.
In the 2025-2026 season, he appeared in 34 matches across all competitions, netting 6 goals and providing 9 assists. Solid numbers, but below his best years in the Premier League, where he regularly ranked among Europe's top playmakers.
An exceptional trophy haul
Developed at Genk, Kevin De Bruyne made his name in Belgium before joining Chelsea in 2012. After stints at Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg, where he truly blossomed, he signed for Manchester City in 2015.
Under Pep Guardiola, he became a true Citizens legend. Over ten seasons, he collected six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five League Cups, a Champions League, a UEFA Super Cup, and a Club World Cup. Individually, he was named Europe's best midfielder and Premier League Player of the Season multiple times.
A new chapter with Messi?
Inter Miami sees Kevin De Bruyne as the perfect addition to further strengthen their midfield and supply Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez. His arrival would significantly boost the ambitions of the Florida club, which has already become a top destination for football’s global icons.
It remains to be seen whether Napoli will agree to let their playmaker go and if negotiations will reach a successful conclusion. Should the deal materialize, MLS would welcome one of the greatest playmakers of his generation, joining forces with Lionel Messi in what could be one of the most significant transfers in the league's history.
