Inter Miami: Lionel Messi stuns Casemiro

Casemiro expressed deep admiration for Lionel Messi's unexpected return to action, just days after the passing of his father.

Lionel Messi surprised everyone by featuring in Inter Miami's 2-3 defeat to León in the Leagues Cup. Only days after his father's death and without having rejoined team training since his trip to Argentina, the number 10 started on the bench before coming on in the second half to a thunderous ovation.

Casemiro impressed by Messi's commitment

Speaking in the mixed zone, Casemiro didn't hide his emotion. "His commitment, not only to the players but also to the club, was incredible. I've never seen anything like it in my life," said the Brazilian.

The midfielder believes that this attitude is exactly why Messi remains "one of the greatest in history, if not the greatest." Despite several attempts, however, the Argentinian couldn't prevent Miami's defeat and elimination.

A new chapter in the United States

Arriving on a free transfer after four seasons at Manchester United, Casemiro officially joined Lionel Messi in July 2026. The 34-year-old signed until the end of the shortened MLS season scheduled for May 2027. His contract includes an option for the Florida club to keep him until June 2029.

A career built between Brazil and Europe

Trained at São Paulo, Casemiro joined Real Madrid in 2013 before being loaned to FC Porto for the 2014-2015 season. Returning to Spain, he established himself as a mainstay for Los Merengues, winning five Champions League titles among other honors. He moved to Manchester United in 2022, spending four seasons there before deciding to continue his career in the United States.
