Italy: Andrea Pirlo set to become the new Azzurri head coach

The suspense is coming to an end in Italy. Andrea Pirlo is on the verge of becoming the new head coach of the Nazionale. According to several reliable sources, the former midfield maestro is expected to sign a deal through 2030 to lead the Azzurri’s rebuild after Pep Guardiola declined the post.

The Italian Federation had pulled out all the stops in its bid to convince the Spanish tactician. Paolo Maldini, technical director, and his advisor Leonardo even traveled to Barcelona to meet the former Manchester City boss. Despite their efforts, Guardiola turned down the offer.

With the Guardiola option now off the table, Paolo Maldini and Leonardo accelerated talks around Andrea Pirlo, seen as the ideal candidate to launch a medium- and long-term rebuild project.
