Recent reports from The Athletic indicate that the Italian Football Federation has already opened discussions with Carlo Ancelotti regarding the vacant post of national team manager.

In a separate development, Paolo Maldini recently revealed that conversations had also taken place with Pep Guardiola about stepping in to succeed Gennaro Gattuso, as the federation remains determined to bring in a big-name figure to lead the Azzurri.

That said, Maldini chose not to share any specifics about how those preliminary talks unfolded. Meanwhile, Andrea Pirlo has increasingly been mentioned as a serious contender for the role, with his name now sitting near the top of the list of potential appointees.
