Giorgio Scalvini is a player Juventus has long been interested in, but the Turin giants suffered a major blow after he signed a five-year contract extension with Atalanta.

A defender with exceptional talent whom Juventus wants

That very pedigree is precisely why Juventus see Scalvini as a player who belongs in their colours — the Old Lady are determined to bring him into the fold somewhere down the line.

Atalanta, though, have no plans to let go. Losing a talent of his calibre is unthinkable for them, and his value to the side has turned his future into a tug-of-war between the two clubs — all the more so with Juventus keeping a close, watchful eye on how the situation unfolds.

Juventus is not the only club admiring the young defender; Premier League sides are also impressed by his abilities—most notably Chelsea, who attempted to sign him last summer but were rebuffed by Atalanta, as well as Manchester City and Newcastle United.

The obstacle is the long-term contract

Bad news has landed on Juventus's doorstep. According to Tuttojuve, Scalvini has put pen to paper on a fresh agreement with Atalanta, one that ties him to the club all the way until 2031 — a development that deals a serious blow to the Old Lady's long-term ambitions of luring the defender away.

That said, the new deal isn't a locked door. Scalvini could still depart Bergamo at some stage, but the contract hands Atalanta far greater leverage at the negotiating table. For Juventus, the message is clear: any future pursuit will likely come with a hefty price tag attached.
