LaLiga: Real Madrid issue lengthy statement against Javier Tebas

On Tuesday evening, Real Madrid published a statement in response to comments made by Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga.

The executive spoke on social media a few hours ago about the complaints made by José Mourinho and his club following last Sunday's defeat in the Madrid derby. “Claiming that referees are being directed against Real Madrid is to live in another galaxy. This narrative serves as an alibi to conceal other shortcomings that have been visible to the naked eye since these first matches of the season. It is more comfortable to point to a conspiracy than to explain what is happening on the pitch,” Tebas wrote. Real Madrid, for its part, decided to respond.

“Our club considers it intolerable that the president of LaLiga uses his institutional position to continue denigrating and attacking Real Madrid in the way he does in each of his interventions. It is deeply concerning that the person responsible for representing and protecting the interests of all LaLiga clubs remains repeatedly obsessed with Real Madrid, making our club the constant target of his public attacks. His latest intervention is particularly serious and incomprehensible, unworthy of an official, because he is commenting on an article by an independent journalist in a digital media outlet. However, he reacts against our club while also allowing himself to judge our sporting strategy, which is completely absurd and irresponsible. It is absolutely surprising that the president of LaLiga devotes his time and personal channels to continually attempting to publicly discredit Real Madrid, instead of contributing, within the scope of his responsibilities, to building trust in the institutions that must guarantee the impartiality of the competition. In doing so, he continues to damage the image of our competition and Spanish football around the world. Given this inappropriate behaviour, which has persisted over time, we understand that professional football in Spain urgently needs a leader capable of managing it and developing its full potential while fulfilling the basic duty of neutrality. It needs someone who understands the nature of their role, because the president of LaLiga is not the owner of the competition, but a manager serving the clubs that make it up and entrust him with its direction. The clubs need someone who carries out this mission honestly,” the Whites said.
