Libya: Youssoupha Dabo is very close to succeeding Aliou Cissé

Just weeks after Aliou Cissé’s departure, it appears that Libya has already found its new national team coach. According to several Libyan media outlets, Youssoupha Dabo is on the verge of being appointed as head coach of the national team.

According to WinWin, an agreement has been reached between the Libyan Football Federation and Youssoupha Dabo, the former assistant to Aliou Cissé. Only a few minor administrative steps remain before the official announcement is made.

This decision is driven by two main reasons.

First, continuity. Since joining Cissé’s staff as an assistant in March, Dabo has become familiar with the squad, the technical staff, and the ongoing project.

The second reason is budgetary. As reported by Al-Wasat newspaper, the Libyan Federation does not have the financial means to sign a high-profile foreign coach, so promoting the current assistant appears to be the most logical option for stability.

Another advantage is that Dabo already has a contract with the federation, ensuring a swift and seamless transition.

At 45 years old, the Senegalese coach boasts an impressive track record; he led Senegal’s U-20 team to the final of the 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations and collected several regional titles. At club level, he has managed Teungueth FC, Jaraaf, Azam FC in Tanzania, and most recently AS Vita Club, before joining the coaching staff in Libya.
