Ligue 2: Oumar Diakité demoted at Reims and sent to the reserves

A tough blow for Oumar Diakité. The Ivorian striker has been sidelined by Stade de Reims. He is now playing with the reserve team of the Champagne club.

This Sunday, Reims' reserves delivered a commanding 6-0 victory over La Neuvillette Jamin in their Regional 1 opener. After being relegated from National 2 last season, the team was able to rely on three players deemed surplus to requirements, including Diakité, to overpower the newly promoted side.

The former ASEC Mimosas forward has now been told to find a new club before the transfer window closes on September 1.

A profile that still holds value

At 22, Oumar Diakité remains under contract with Reims until the summer of 2028. He is valued at 5 million euros on Transfermarkt. After Reims’ relegation to Ligue 2, he attempted a loan move to Belgium. He returns from Cercle Brugge after a season with 27 appearances and 7 goals. His international record speaks for itself: 31 caps and 6 goals for the Elephants. African champion in 2023, he also played at AFCON 2026 and the World Cup, where he featured for 34 minutes.

There are options on the table

Despite being sidelined, Diakité is not short of suitors. Clubs such as Amedspor and FC Basel are reportedly in the running to sign him. For both Reims and the player, a split seems inevitable in the coming days.
