Manchester City: English clubs divided over forthcoming sanctions
In recent days, the possibility of Manchester City being expelled from the Premier League has been circulating in the media. But it is far from being unanimously supported among the English club’s rivals.
According to Sky Sports, discussions are under way between several executives, with some believing that such a sanction would have serious commercial consequences. Executives from leading clubs even say they are “astonished” at the prospect of the 15 votes needed being secured. “If Manchester City were expelled, it would have enormous commercial consequences for everyone and, ultimately, it would cost the other clubs a huge amount of money,” one of them said anonymously.

Other clubs believe that allowing the Citizens to remain would damage the image and integrity of the competition. In the Championship, too, the prospect of welcoming Manchester City is meeting with resistance. “What benefit would the Championship gain from seeing Manchester City relegated there? Absolutely none. (...) They would come straight back up, so it would effectively eliminate one promotion place,” a club executive told Sky Sports.
