Manchester City officially announces contract extension for their defensive rock!

Arriving in England almost unknown in January 2025, Abdukodir Khusanov has convinced Manchester City to extend his contract until June 2031.

The long-awaited extension of Abdukodir Khusanov is now official. The Uzbek centre-back has signed a new five-year deal that ties him to Manchester City until June 2031. His previous contract ran until 2029.

Signed from RC Lens in January 2025 for around €40 million, Khusanov quickly established himself despite a tricky start in the Premier League. At just 22 years old, he already boasts 47 appearances for the Citizens.

A meteoric rise in England

During the second half of the 2025-2026 season, the former Lens player formed a particularly solid partnership with Marc Guéhi. He featured in 16 of City's last 19 league matches and played a crucial role in their triumphant FA Cup and League Cup campaigns.

His performances saw him finish among the three finalists for the club's Player of the Season award, which was ultimately won by Nico O’Reilly. In their official statement, Manchester City confirmed their commitment to building around the Uzbek international.

"This is a great day for my family and me. I am very happy to extend my stay at City. I have enjoyed every minute since arriving in Manchester and I feel like I am growing and learning a lot as a player. Now I have a new challenge: to impress Enzo Maresca and his staff so I can become a regular in his team. I am determined to make it happen. Thank you to the City fans for all their support. It has been so important in helping me adapt to England and the Premier League. Now, I'm only looking forward. I'm ready to give everything to help this club achieve as much success as possible," said Khusanov.

City secures a defender with tremendous potential

Director of Football Hugo Viana believes the player has all the qualities required to reach the very highest level.

"We have been very pleased and impressed by Abdukodir's progress since he arrived in England. We see him developing into a brilliant young man and an outstanding defender, but we know this is just the beginning. His physical and technical qualities are top-notch. He has everything needed to become a world-class centre-back. At just 22, his best years are still ahead and his potential for growth is clear. That's why we're so happy he has signed a new contract with City. We hope he can become a key part of Enzo's plans in the coming years."

This extension also rewards his importance to Uzbekistan, whom he helped qualify for their first-ever World Cup. By securing him until the age of 27, Manchester City is protecting a player whose sporting and market value could rise significantly in the coming years.
