Manchester City reassures after Rodri's surgery

Rodri's future continues to fuel transfer market rumors. Courted by Real Madrid, the Spanish midfielder has just undergone a minor back procedure that will delay his return.

Manchester City has officially released a statement on Rodri's condition. The 2024 Ballon d'Or winner successfully underwent minor back surgery to resolve discomfort he's been experiencing for several weeks.

The English club has not provided a specific timeline for his return to training. The 30-year-old midfielder will now undergo a short rehabilitation period before gradually rejoining the squad led by Enzo Maresca. This procedure also explains his absence from the Cityzens' summer tour in Asia.

"The entire club wishes him a speedy recovery," Manchester City stated, promising to provide further updates on his recovery in due course.

Delayed return after a stellar World Cup

This surgery comes just days after a particularly outstanding 2026 World Cup for Rodri. Champion with Spain and named player of the tournament, the City star played in eight matches and completed 790 passes, setting a new single-edition record for the tournament.

The minor nature of the operation limits any major concerns, but this latest setback means Manchester City will proceed with caution. Rodri is still recovering from a serious knee injury suffered in September 2024 and has been hampered by several physical issues over the past two seasons.

Real Madrid still on the lookout

The player's medical news arrives as Real Madrid is said to have renewed its interest in signing him.
