Manchester United: AC Milan sets sights on Bruno Fernandes

A release clause accessible to foreign clubs puts Bruno Fernandes at the center of transfer speculation, despite his desire to continue his journey at Manchester United.

The future of Bruno Fernandes could be one of the key storylines as the transfer window comes to a close. According to the BBC, AC Milan is interested in the Manchester United captain, with Juventus and Galatasaray also in the mix. Any move from Milan would pose a serious threat to Michael Carrick, who sees the Portuguese maestro as a cornerstone of his project.

A €67 million release clause

The contract Fernandes signed in August 2024 runs until June 30, 2027, with an additional year as an option. However, the reported €67 million release clause is only available to foreign clubs. Despite this, the playmaker would reportedly prefer to extend his stay and is even considering finishing his career at Old Trafford.

Since arriving from Sporting Portugal in January 2020, Fernandes has racked up 332 appearances, 110 goals, and 106 assists for the Red Devils. Last season, the 31-year-old added nine goals and 21 assists, helping United secure third place in the Premier League and a return to the Champions League.

Ibrahim Maza was also on Milan's radar

Before pursuing Fernandes, AC Milan had made inquiries about Ibrahim Maza as they looked to strengthen their playmaker options. The Rossoneri, however, quickly realized the move would be highly complicated. Bayer Leverkusen now sees the Algerian international as a key part of their new project and has no intention of letting him go this summer.
