Manchester United: war declared on the Glazers and INEOS

With Manchester United’s worrying results, several supporters are now calling for a boycott and directly targeting the Glazers and INEOS.

Anger is mounting among Manchester United supporters. On Tuesday, several Red Devils fans launched the hashtags #GlazersAndIneosOut and #BoycottUnited on social media to protest against the club’s management. The Glazer family and INEOS, which has been involved in the sporting management since acquiring a stake in the club, are being directly targeted.

The movement is also expected to go beyond social media. Its initiators are calling on supporters to boycott Manchester United merchandise, as well as certain brands linked to INEOS and several of the club’s sponsors, including Adidas and Coca-Cola.

INEOS and the Glazers aren't destroying United, they've destroyed it. United fans suffer while these billionaires continue ruining this beautiful club.

The worst start to a season in twelve years

The protest comes amid an especially difficult sporting situation. After five rounds of the Premier League, Manchester United have just 5 points from a possible 15, with a record of one win, two draws and two defeats. The Red Devils have scored 8 goals and conceded the same number.

Michael Carrick’s side began with a 2-0 defeat away to promoted Hull City before beating Ipswich Town 5-2. They then drew 2-2 at Everton, lost the derby against Manchester City 1-0 and finally snatched a point at Fulham (1-1). This tally of five points after five rounds equals the club’s worst start at this stage of the Premier League since the 2014-2015 season.

The defeat to Brighton further deepened the crisis

The poor start in the league was compounded by an exit in the third round of the League Cup. Manchester United were beaten 3-2 by Brighton at Old Trafford, despite taking a two-goal lead.

Twelfth in the league after five rounds, United therefore head into the international break under significant pressure already. For some supporters, the current difficulties are no longer merely sporting: they symbolise a deeper problem in the club’s governance.
