The Red Devils thought they were finally in for a quiet evening, but Brighton completely turned the game around to win 3-2.

The nightmare continues for Manchester United. Already struggling in the Premier League with just one win in their first four matches, then beaten in the derby against Manchester City despite having a numerical advantage, Michael Carrick’s men fell again, this time in the Carabao Cup against Brighton.

Yet everything had started perfectly. Manchester United were already 2-0 up after just ten minutes and appeared to be heading towards a controlled evening. But Brighton gradually regained control of the match and reduced the deficit just before half-time through Stefanos Tzimas Kostoulas.

Jaouen Hadjam decisive before Brighton’s revival

In the build-up to the goal, Algeria international Jaouen Hadjam stood out with a superb through ball that launched the Seagulls’ attack. It was another impressive performance from the Algerian full-back, who continues to grow in importance at his new club.

After the interval, Brighton clearly took control. Pascal Groß first brought the two teams level before Maxim De Cuyper completed the comeback to give the Seagulls a 3-2 victory and qualification for the next round.

More pressure on Carrick

For Manchester United, this latest disappointment makes an already very worrying start to the season even more difficult. The team continues to show great fragility whenever it loses control of a match, and the pressure surrounding Michael Carrick can only increase.

The Red Devils will need to respond quickly to prevent this poor run of form from turning into a full-blown crisis. Brighton, meanwhile, continue their Carabao Cup campaign, with Jaouen Hadjam once again playing a decisive role.
