Mercato: Thiago Silva makes his grand return home

Thiago Silva is officially back in Brazil. The 41-year-old defender has signed with Fluminense until December 2026, bringing his European adventure to an end after a final season with FC Porto.

The Rio club confirmed the signing of their former captain on Monday afternoon, marking his fourth stint in the tricolor shirt. After several weeks of talks and careful thought, the player has now given his definitive agreement.

A contract until 2026

Thiago Silva has put pen to paper on a deal running through December 2026. He is expected at the Carlos Castilho training center in the coming days to begin working with the professional squad.

Fluminense began negotiations several weeks ago, determined to convince the defender to return despite interest from other clubs, including some in Europe. The player, for his part, took time during his vacation to weigh up his options before making a final decision.

A strong bond with Fluminense

Having already played 212 matches and scored 19 goals for the club, Thiago Silva remains a towering figure in Fluminense’s recent history. He notably lifted the Copa do Brasil in 2007, his first major trophy.

The defender left the club at the end of last year, primarily for family reasons, with his loved ones staying in London. Despite Fluminense’s attempt to extend his stay, he moved to Porto before ultimately choosing to return to Brazil.

This return is seen as a massive boost for Fluminense, who are counting on his experience for upcoming domestic and continental challenges.
