Mohamed Salah joins Trabzonspor’s hall of African legends

Following his 9 year tenure at Liverpool, Mohamed Salah has embarked on a new chapter by joining Trabzonspor becoming the fourth Egyptian international to represent the Black Sea Storm.

A legacy of Egyptian talent in Trabzon

Mohamed Salah's arrival continues a established connection between Egyptian football and the Turkish Super Lig side.

Former Zamalek midfielder Ayman Abdelaziz became the first Egyptian to wear the Trabzonspor shirt after joining the club in January 2007. Abdelaziz spent a season and a half in Trabzon making 55 appearances and scoring two goals before returning to Zamalek in 2008.

Later in early 2008, left back Sayed Moawad briefly joined the team. Moawad featured in four matches for Trabzonspor before returning to Egypt to complete a transfer to Al Ahly.

Trezeguet’s benchmark for success

The most notable Egyptian campaign at the club prior to Salah's arrival belonged to winger Mahmoud Hassan "Trezeguet"

Trezeguet joined Trabzonspor from English Premier League side Aston Villa in 2022. Over a 3 year stint, Trezeguet became the most impactful Egyptian player in the club's history recording 25 goal and 16 assist across 76 appearance in all competitions.

He also helped secure silverware for the club, playing a central role in Trabzonspor's 2022 Turkish Super Cup victory before his departure in 2025.
