Mohamed Salah's staggering salary at Trabzonspor

Free after nine seasons at Liverpool, Mohamed Salah has chosen Trabzonspor, where a two-year contract and a colossal salary await him.

The future of Mohamed Salah now looks set to be written at Trabzonspor. The Black Sea club has officially announced the start of talks with the Egyptian forward: "Negotiations have begun regarding the transfer of professional player Mohamed Salah to our club."

Having arrived in Istanbul on Wednesday, the 34-year-old is set to undergo his medical before joining Trabzon. His official signing is expected to be formalized on Thursday. While several Turkish outlets are already reporting the deal as done, the club has so far only confirmed the opening of negotiations.

This decision brings an end to an especially dramatic saga. Salah had been linked with Real Madrid, PSG, Bayern Munich, Saudi clubs, and American teams. Fenerbahçe also made a move, while a verbal agreement with Beşiktaş was reportedly reached. The Black Eagles ultimately abandoned the Mohamed Salah pursuit due to the cost of the operation and disagreements over image rights.

A salary of €17 million per season

Mohamed Salah is expected to sign a two-year contract, with the second year possibly being optional. According to several Turkish media outlets, his salary will reach €17 million annually, including bonuses.

The Egyptian international could therefore earn up to €34 million over the course of his deal. This would make him the highest-paid player in the history of the Turkish league. Trabzonspor, however, will not pay a transfer fee since his contract with Liverpool expired on June 30.

Trabzonspor returns to Europe

The Turkish club is coming off a particularly encouraging season. Trabzonspor finished third in the Süper Lig with 69 points, behind Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe. Their record: 20 wins, nine draws, and only five defeats, with 61 goals scored and 39 conceded.

The Bordo-Mavililer also claimed their tenth Turkish Cup title by beating Konyaspor in the final (2-1). They will now compete in the Europa League play-offs, scheduled for August 20 and 27. Salah's arrival would massively boost their continental ambitions and allow them to chase their first league title since 2022.

A tough final season after a historic campaign

Salah leaves Liverpool with mind-blowing stats: 257 goals and 123 assists in 442 appearances across all competitions. Signed from AS Roma in 2017, he won nine trophies with the Reds, including two Premier League titles and a Champions League.

His first season under Arne Slot was phenomenal. In 2024-2025, the Egyptian netted 34 goals and provided 23 assists in 52 matches. With 29 goals and 18 assists in the league, he claimed the title, the Golden Boot, top playmaker, and Premier League Player of the Year awards.

His final campaign proved much trickier. Used less frequently after his relationship with Slot soured, Salah ended the 2025-2026 season with 12 goals and nine assists in all competitions. A thigh injury also cut short his final weeks at Anfield. Trabzonspor now hopes to provide the perfect setting for him to return to his best.
