Fenerbahçe: Kojo Oppong makes his mark
Kojo Oppong made his presence felt on his first appearance in Fenerbahçe's starting XI. While the Istanbul club endured a difficult match against Galatasaray, the 22-year-old Ghanaian defender stood out through his commitment and strength in duels.
An opportunity seized after Aké's injury
Signed during the last summer transfer window for €12 million, Kojo Oppong had so far struggled to get playing time. His first appearances had been limited to 22 minutes against Eyüpspor and three minutes against Rizespor. Nathan Aké's injury ultimately gave him the opportunity to partner Milan Škriniar at the heart of the defence. Against Galatasaray, the young Ghanaian therefore made his first start in Fenerbahçe colours. He played 70 minutes before leaving the pitch.
Despite the team's difficulties, Oppong displayed several qualities appreciated by observers. His speed of intervention and his ability to win duels were particularly highlighted. The defender was not directly involved in the goals conceded by his team and delivered a performance deemed convincing by the Turkish media.
Arriving with the label of a €12 million signing, Oppong was still waiting for the chance to showcase the full extent of his abilities. This first start allowed him to take a step forward in his adaptation. Competition remains fierce in defence, but the Ghanaian sent a positive signal to his coach. It is now up to him to build on this performance and make the most of the next opportunities that come his way.
