After Galatasaray’s victory over Fenerbahçe (2-1), Victor Osimhen reaffirmed his attachment to the Istanbul club. The Nigerian striker also reflected on the importance of derbies in the title race and praised the qualities of his teammate Aleksey Batrakov.

Osimhen stresses the importance of derbies in the title race

Galatasaray won the derby against Fenerbahçe (2-1) at RAMS Park on matchday 9 of the Turkish championship. Scoring twice in the 29th and 44th minutes, Victor Osimhen played a major role in the victory, despite İrfan Can Kahveci pulling one back in the 62nd minute. After the match, Osimhen highlighted the importance of this type of fixture in the title race:

To become champions, it is very important to win the derbies. We managed to do that. I am happy with our performance today. We are the best in Turkey and among the best in the world. And we are proving it!

The Nigerian international also explained that he does not pay particular attention to discussions on social media. “I love this club. I will give everything for this club,” he said, once again reaffirming his commitment to Galatasaray.

Victor Osimhen praises Aleksey Batrakov

During his remarks, the striker also discussed Aleksey Batrakov, whose footballing qualities he has appreciated, as well as his day-to-day attitude. Osimhen highlighted the player’s quality, personality and the positive atmosphere he helps create in the dressing room:

Batrakov is an incredible player and truly an incredible person. He wants to learn everything about Galatasaray. He is trying to get to know Galatasaray’s legends and, since he arrived, he has also built an interesting connection with the supporters. Our coach also trusts him. It looks as though he has been playing with us for 2 years. I am also trying to learn his game; I watched his previous matches and we discuss them in detail. We are trying to create different patterns with him. I also watched how he built connections with the other strikers at his former clubs. He tells me about it too; he tells me which passes he is going to make and which runs I should make. That is also, of course, very important.

For the Nigerian striker, this curiosity reflects Batrakov’s interest in the environment in which he plays and his desire to better understand the club’s identity. This connection could facilitate attacking combinations and help make Galatasaray’s attack more effective.
