Trabzonspor: Paul Onuachu recovering from his injury

Paul Onuachu is continuing his recovery from a groin injury, but the Nigerian striker will not play in the derby against Çaykur Rizespor this Sunday, October 25. Trabzonspor’s staff would rather wait until he regains full fitness before reintegrating him, with a possible return against Gaziantep FK on November 1.

Injured on October 15 during Trabzonspor’s 4-2 victory over KuPS Kuopio in the Conference League, Onuachu had opened the scoring before leaving his teammates in the 10th minute. He has since missed the matches against Beşiktaş and Hearts.

Coach Thomas Reis had hoped to have his centre-forward back for the trip to Rizespor. The German manager ultimately opted for caution, believing that his striker was not yet sufficiently ready to return to competition.

Franculino Dju called on to continue deputising

In the Nigerian’s absence, Franculino Dju is expected to lead the attack once again. The striker will be responsible for spearheading Trabzonspor’s offensive line against Rizespor.

Onuachu’s return is particularly eagerly anticipated after his previous season, which ended with 22 league goals. The club hopes to quickly regain its efficiency in front of goal, but no definitive return date has yet been confirmed.

The match against Gaziantep FK, scheduled for November 1, appears to be a possible next target for the Nigerian striker. His participation will nevertheless depend on his physical condition over the coming days.
