As competition intensifies among football’s stars for the most prestigious individual trophy in the world of football, former FC Barcelona defender Jordi Alba has revealed his favorite to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or.

Ballon d’Or 2026: Alba puts Messi ahead of Lamine Yamal

Alba said in an interview with Spanish newspaper “AS”, during a recreational camp for supporters held in the city of Puertomingalvo ahead of the “Clásico”, that the competition appeared to be open this year, but that he was choosing Messi in view of his exceptional season and his performances at the World Cup.

Alba commented: “Given the excellent season Lionel has had and his performances at the World Cup, I choose him to win the Ballon d’Or.”

The former Spanish left-back also discussed the comparison between Messi and Lamine Yamal: “After Leo, a player like Lamine has emerged, and it is natural for such comparisons to be made, but for me, Leo is the best of all time.”

Alba also praised Yamal’s talent, adding: “At such a young age, given what he offers and the way he plays, he is undoubtedly one of the players we enjoy watching.”

It should be noted that the winner of the Ballon d’Or will be announced on October 26 in the British capital, London, as we previously reported.
