Galatasaray - Fenerbahçe: İsmail Kartal prepares a plan to stop Victor Osimhen
The derby against Galatasaray is already being prepared down to the finest details at Fenerbahçe. After the 2-2 draw against Slavia Prague in the Champions League, İsmail Kartal has reportedly identified a priority mission for his young Ghanaian defender, Kojo Peprah Oppong: limiting Victor Osimhen’s influence.
Oppong called upon to take responsibility
The injury to Nathan Aké has reshuffled the defensive line-up. Injured during the European clash against Slavia Prague, the defender had to make way for Oppong in the 20th minute. According to Turkish outlet Milliyet, Kartal is reportedly considering trusting the young Ghanaian alongside Milan Škriniar for the clash against Galatasaray.
Kojo Peprah Oppeng’s selection would reportedly be explained in particular by his athletic qualities and pace, considered useful for dealing with Osimhen’s runs in behind. The coach has reportedly asked him to study the Nigerian striker’s movements, positioning and runs behind the defence carefully. The aim would be to prepare the young defender to track his opponent closely and anticipate his movements.
Škriniar and Aké called upon to advise him
At just 22 years old, Oppong could therefore make a particularly demanding start this season. According to Milliyet, Kartal would be placing his trust in him and seeking to prepare him both tactically and mentally.
Škriniar and Aké have also reportedly spoken with him individually to reassure him ahead of this important encounter. Against one of the most dangerous strikers in the Turkish league, the young Ghanaian would therefore be under close scrutiny. The duel with Osimhen could prove to be one of the derby’s major storylines.
