Real Madrid: Trent Alexander-Arnold ready to leave in January
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s spell at Real Madrid is not going as planned. Having arrived in summer 2025 after several years at Liverpool, the English right-back has struggled to establish himself on a lasting basis in the Spanish capital. According to several reports carried by the press, he could reassess his situation this winter and consider a loan move as early as the January transfer window.
A starting spot difficult to secure
At 28, Alexander-Arnold has failed to establish himself as an undisputed starter since arriving in Madrid. Competition for his position limits his opportunities, despite his technical qualities and ability to create chances. This season, the England international has recorded one assist in six official matches, including four starts.
In Madrid’s recent 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig in the Champions League, he remained on the bench for the entire match, while Federico Valverde occupied the right-back position. According to Indykaila News, the player would now be ready to consider his future at the Spanish club. A loan move to the Premier League as early as January would be one of the options under consideration.
Liverpool still on his mind?
A possible return to England could attract several clubs. Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea have reportedly expressed interest in his situation. Bayern Munich are also said to be monitoring the matter. Liverpool holds a special place in the defender’s career. Developed at the Reds, Alexander-Arnold made 354 official appearances for the club, scoring 23 goals and providing 92 assists before leaving for Spain.
Under contract with Real Madrid, Alexander-Arnold remains tied to the Madrid project despite the questions surrounding his playing time. A loan move could allow him to regain greater consistency, but it would depend on the club’s position and any potential offers. The January transfer window could therefore mark a turning point in his Spanish adventure. For now, his departure remains a possibility mentioned by the media, rather than a confirmed deal.
