LaLiga: Javier Tebas under threat in his position as president

This Thursday, the Spanish National Sports Council (CSD) decided to take action against Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga.

The body referred the matter to the Administrative Tribunal for Sport (TAD) so that it could examine comments made by the president of LaLiga. Javier Tebas had compared the communication methods of Real Madrid and its official channel to the propaganda techniques used by Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Germany’s Minister of Propaganda. The CSD therefore wishes to determine whether these statements could constitute a serious breach of Spanish sports law, particularly by undermining dignity or respect in the sporting community.

Javier Tebas puts up a strong defence

President Javier Tebas reacted strongly to the decision. He defended his comments, clarifying that his comparison concerned only communication methods and not Nazi ideology or Real Madrid supporters.

Tebas also criticised the CSD for failing to react to Real Madrid’s accusations regarding Spanish refereeing. As a reminder, the Merengue club had called for Tebas’s immediate resignation following his comments. For now, no sanction has been imposed: it is now up to the TAD to assess the facts and determine what action should be taken in this matter.
