Tolu Arokodare and the signing with Ajax: How the plan unfolded!
Ajax Amsterdam's ambition to return to the summit of Dutch football weighed heavily on Tolu Arokodare's decision. In an exclusive interview with Africafoot, the Nigerian striker explains why the club's reconstruction project ultimately convinced him to join the Amsterdam side on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The revival project made the difference
Courted by several clubs, Tolu Arokodare was won over by Ajax's determination to reclaim its status as a reference point in Dutch and European football. For the Nigerian forward, the stakes go well beyond his own career: it is also about taking part in the rebirth of an institution accustomed to playing a leading role.
His conversations with Jordi Cruyff, a technical figure at the club, as well as with the head coach, strengthened his conviction. The former KRC Genk striker saw in this project an opportunity to relaunch his career while contributing to an ambitious collective goal. Speaking to Africafoot, he said:
“I was very interested, I like the project and I wanted to be part of it, to work, to build and to bring the club back to the top. They are trying to bring Ajax back to its usual place, first place, and obviously the previous seasons have not been brilliant. So when I heard about this project, it interested me a lot.”

A new experience for the Nigerian
By arriving at Ajax on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Nigerian international is committing himself to a project where expectations run high. The Amsterdam club intend to reclaim their place at the summit, following recent seasons that were less convincing than those which forged their reputation.
For Arokodare, this ambition represents an added source of motivation. Rather than focusing solely on adapting to a new league, the Nigerian intends to invest himself in a collective dynamic and to contribute to Ajax's return among the teams that matter.
His choice thus reflects the appeal of a sporting project built on reconstruction and a return to the top. What remains now is to turn that ambition into results on the pitch, with the hope that the striker can play an important role in the renewal of the Dutch giant.
