Clásico: Florentino Pérez makes a major decision
Once again, Sunday’s Clásico at Camp Nou between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid will take place without Florentino Pérez.
While all eyes will be on José Mourinho’s return to Camp Nou, the Real Madrid president has decided not to travel to Catalonia to attend the clash. According to Mundo Deportivo, no meeting is planned between Florentino Pérez and his Barcelona counterpart, Joan Laporta.
Endless tensions between Real Madrid and Barça
Florentino Pérez’s announced absence is evidence of the ongoing tensions between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. Relations between the two clubs have deteriorated considerably since the Negreira case. Real Madrid has notably launched an offensive against Barça over the matter, leading to a breakdown in dialogue between the clubs’ leadership. As a direct consequence of this situation, the traditional lunch organised between the two clubs’ directors before every Clásico will not take place this year.
However, this is not the first time, as Florentino Pérez has not attended a Clásico at Camp Nou for several seasons. During the previous clash in Barcelona, Pirri, Real Madrid’s honorary president, was the only representative of the Madrid club present in the presidential box.
