Yan Diomandé continues to deliver decisive performances in a Real Madrid shirt. Against RB Leipzig, on matchday three of the Champions League league phase, the young Ivorian confirmed his good form by playing an active role in Real Madrid's win. Coming on during the match, he first set up Kylian Mbappé for the third goal in the 83rd minute, before finding the back of the net himself in the 87th minute.
Real Madrid won 4-1 thanks to goals from Bernardo Silva, Arda Güler, Kylian Mbappé and Yan Diomandé. Leipzig pulled one back through Tidiam Gomis between Real Madrid's two goals. The match held particular significance for Diomandé, as he was facing his former club, which he left during the summer to join the Spanish capital.
Two consecutive decisive performances
This performance continues the momentum he began building a few days earlier in La Liga. On Sunday, October 18, against Sevilla, Diomandé scored a goal and provided an assist in another 4-1 Real Madrid victory. He notably played a role in Arda Güler's opener before finishing an individual move himself.
Across the two matches, the Ivorian forward therefore scored two goals and provided two assists. His efficiency comes as Real Madrid enters an important period of the season, including Sunday's Clasico against Barcelona.
Diomandé gains ground in the attacking competition
The numbers highlight the Ivorian's consistency. In his last five starts for Real Madrid, Yan Diomandé has been involved in seven goals, with three goals and four assists.
His run began against Elche, where he provided an assist, before scoring against Villarreal. He then made his mark against AS Roma by providing another assist. Against Sevilla last weekend, he scored a goal and provided an assist. He produced the same return against Leipzig in the Champions League.
Elche, Villarreal, AS Roma, Sevilla and Leipzig: five opponents, seven goal contributions. This sequence of performances confirms Diomandé's effectiveness both in finishing and in creating chances.
Against Leipzig, José Mourinho chose to start Vinícius Júnior, Kylian Mbappé and Arda Güler in attack, leaving Diomandé on the bench at kick-off. The young Ivorian responded on the pitch by making an immediate impact after coming on.
This efficiency gives the Madrid coach an additional option in an attacking area where competition is fierce. At 19, Diomandé cannot yet claim an undisputed starting role, but his latest performances are strengthening his case.
Against Sevilla and then Leipzig, he showed that he could make the difference both by scoring and by setting up his teammates. With the Clasico approaching, the Ivorian forward gives José Mourinho an attacking alternative whose importance could grow as the matches go by.
