Champions League: Yan Diomandé scores again as Real thrash RB Leipzig
Real Madrid are brimming with confidence ahead of next Sunday's Clásico against FC Barcelona. José Mourinho's men beat RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday evening (4-1).
Los Merengues struggled to get into the match, and the Bernabéu crowd was growing impatient, with regular jeers directed at Vinicius Jr. As is often the case, Real Madrid managed to score even during a difficult spell.
Indeed, after a fine team move, Valverde crossed for Arda Güler, who was denied by Vanvervoordt. However, the ball took an awkward bounce off the goalkeeper, and Bernardo Silva, alert as a poacher, tapped it into the net (1-0, 43rd minute). After the break, José Mourinho's side went back on the attack, and Vandevoordt produced an excellent save to deny Valverde (47th minute). From Bellingham's cross to the far post, Mbappé headed the ball back across goal. Arda Güler appeared to turn it in and double the lead (2-0, 51st minute).
Diomandé seals victory for Madrid
With the Germans no longer posing much of a threat, the Madrid side added another goal through Kylian Mbappé. From the edge of the box, the Frenchman unleashed a perfect shot into the opposite top corner (3-1, 83rd minute). Gomis pulled one back in the 85th minute, before Yan Diomandé also joined the celebrations, scoring against his former club. The Ivorian struck a volley under the crossbar. A genuine golazo (4-1, 87th minute).
The victory gives Real Madrid a perfect three wins from three at the start of their Champions League campaign.
