Manqoba Mngqithi guides Yanga to CAFCL group stage
Manqoba Mngqithi has guided Young Africans to the CAF Champions League group stage with an 8-1 aggregate win over CFFA in the second round.
The Tanzanian champions beat the Madagascar outfit 4-1 in the return leg on Wednesday, with Ibrahim Kazimoto opening the scoring in the 27th minute.
Selemani Mwalimu doubled the lead four minutes after the restart, before completing his brace in the 53rd minute to make it 3-0 in favour of Yanga.
CFFA reduced the deficit in the 75th minute, thanks to Fitahantsoa Albertini, but Juma Abushiri put the game to bed eight minutes from time.
Yanga, as a result, became the first team to book their spot in the group stage of Africa's premier club competition for the 2026/27 campaign.
Mngqithi and his troops overcame Botswana champions Gaborone United 3-2 on aggregate in the first round - winning at home after a draw on the road.
Appointed at the beginning of the season, the South African mentor has been tasked with mounting a deep run in the Champions League.
Whether Mngqithi will meet the objectives set by the hierarchy remains to be seen, with Yanga having crashed out in the group stages in the last two terms.
