Orlando Pirates: Ouaddou provides details on Appollis's injury

Word has come from Orlando Pirates boss Abdeslam Ouaddou regarding Oswin Appollis, who has made his way back into training — though the Buccaneers are in no rush, preferring to handle his recovery with caution.

The winger had been carried off on a stretcher during the team's 3-0 Betway Premiership triumph over TS Galaxy, and as a result sat out Pirates' 1-0 win against African Stars in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary round clash.

Abdel Salam Oudo is pleased with the return of Oswin Appollis to training

Ouaddou expressed his satisfaction at seeing the winger back on the training pitch, explaining that the session's purpose was to evaluate what Appollis could handle, beginning with the warm-up to test his sprinting. He described the update as good news, noting that he had spoken with the player afterwards.

"He told me that he doesn't feel any more pain. But at the same time, you have to understand that Oswin is really an important player in our team. I call them, they are all Ferraris, you know.

"They are all Ferraris. It means Ferraris, you have to take care of the engine very well, and I don't want to take a risk with one of the important players. So, we have many games, somebody mentioned it, important games.

"So, we have to be careful and not to burn the stages more," Ouaddou told journalists.

The coach stressed that with a packed schedule of significant fixtures ahead, caution must guide the player's return rather than rushing him through the phases of recovery.

Good progress in recovery

Friday's meeting with African Stars carries a place in the CAF Champions League group stages as its prize, and beyond that, the Carling Knockout Cup campaign awaits, along with a Soweto Derby date against Kaizer Chiefs on October 31 — all of it crowding the club's upcoming schedule.

Back in the starting line-up against TS Galaxy, Appollis wasted little time making his presence felt, setting up Boitumelo Radiopane's opener before his evening came to an abrupt end.

With a string of significant fixtures on the horizon, Pirates will be anxious to handle his comeback with care, eager to have the winger at their disposal for the challenges that lie ahead.
