Real Madrid: Thibaut Courtois to extend until 2028
Thibaut Courtois is closing in on an extension with Real Madrid. The Belgian goalkeeper confirmed that he was close to signing a new contract with the Madrid club, where he wants to continue his career until the end. Several media outlets have reported that an agreement has been reached to extend his contract until 2028.
Courtois wants to stay in Madrid
Having arrived from Chelsea in the summer of 2018, Courtois has established himself as a key figure at Real Madrid. At 34, he has already made 345 official appearances in the Merengues’ colours, including 131 clean sheets. With his current contract approaching its end, the Belgian goalkeeper reassured Madrid supporters about his intentions:
I am close to signing a new contract. I want to finish my career here, at Real Madrid.
According to several reports carried by the media, the two parties have reportedly reached an agreement to extend their collaboration until 2028. The official signing is still awaited, however. This extension would allow Real Madrid to retain an experienced goalkeeper who is still considered an important part of its squad.
Alongside his club career, Courtois remains one of the key players for the Belgian national team, with 115 caps to his name. At this stage of his career, the goalkeeper therefore does not appear to be considering a new challenge elsewhere. His aim is to continue his story with Real Madrid and, in time, prepare for the end of his professional career there.
