Red Arrows captain makes bold claim ahead of Chiefs CAF tie
Interview
Red Arrows captain Saddam Phiri has made a bold claim ahead of the reverse fixture of their CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round tie against Kaizer Chiefs at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday.
The Zambian outfit takes a slender advantage into the match as they emerged victorious in the first meeting on home soil, thanks to a solitary goal from Alassane Diarra.
Arrows need a goalless draw to progress to the next stage of the competition, while scoring the crucial away goal could prove to be a sucker punch to Fernando da Cruz and his charges.
With Chiefs currently enduring a four-game winless run across all competitions, Phiri claims the three-time Zambian champions are capable of poaching the Amakhosi faithful with their style of play.
“I think we want to turn Kaizer Chiefs fans into Red Arrows fans. So, we just do our best to play our usual game, even the lads have been talking about it that the crowds here are big,” said the Arrows skipper.
"But we can turn their crowd to support us, that's what the players are planning because we know they haven't been in a good spell recently.
"They are not a bad side, they're a good side. So, we expect a big crowd and that's motivating to the players also.
Notably, Arrows are unbeaten in all competitions this campaign, setting up a nerve-wracking return leg in Durban, with a lucrative spot in the group stage of the Confederation Cup at stake.
