Fernando da Cruz makes impassioned plea to Chiefs supporters
Interview
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando da Cruz has implored the Amakhosi faithful to come out in numbers to support the team in the CAF Confederation Cup return leg against Red Arrows.
The Glamour Boys will be looking to overturn the deficit at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday after suffering a 1-0 defeat in the first leg at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium over the weekend.
Chiefs will be forced to leave no room for error on home soil as failure to make the net bulge would see them crash out in the preliminary round, while conceding the crucial away goal could prove costly.
Da Cruz is aware of the murmurs of discontent from the club's supporters over a string of poor results, but nonetheless, called on the 12th man to help the team secure a favourable result and a group stage spot.
“I know that they are not happy because in the PSL we don't lose but we don't win as well, and today [Saturday] we lost,” said the French tactician, who has been the subject of scrutiny recently.
"But there is a second leg and we need them at home to push the players, to be behind us because I know that our team is able to win this game and be qualified.
With results not forthcoming, the former LOSC Lille B coach has urged unity from everyone associated with Chiefs, vowing the team will deliver better results after the difficult spell.
“The most important thing in this type of period is to be together as the staff, players, management, fans, and everyone to go through this period because after this period we'll have better results,” da Cruz added.
Whether Chiefs will secure a ticket to the next stage of the competition at the expense of Arrows remains to be seen, with the Zambian club yet to taste defeat this season.
