Before their latest duel at the Parc des Princes, Paris and Barcelona renew a rivalry marked by spectacular comebacks and memorable scores.

The Parc des Princes is set to host one of the most exciting fixtures in European football once again. On Tuesday, October 20, at 9 p.m., Paris Saint-Germain, the two-time defending champions, welcome FC Barcelona for the third matchday of the league phase of the Champions League. A rivalry full of twists and turns.

According to UEFA's official record, the two clubs had faced each other 15 times in the Champions League before this meeting. PSG narrowly lead with six victories, compared with five for the Catalans and four draws. Paris have scored 29 goals, compared with 28 for their opponents: a tiny difference that illustrates how evenly matched this rivalry has been.

From 1995 to 2017: the remontada remains etched in everyone's memory

Their first meeting in the competition dates back to the 1995 quarter-finals. After a draw in Barcelona (1-1), PSG won the return leg (2-1) and eliminated the Catalan club. Barcelona subsequently eliminated Paris in 2013 and 2015.

But the most famous duel remains the one in 2017. Having won 4-0 in the first leg in Paris, PSG suffered an unbelievable 6-1 defeat at Camp Nou, resulting in elimination. This “remontada” remains one of the most memorable episodes in the history of the competition. They had also faced each other in the 1997 Cup Winners' Cup final, won 1-0 by Barcelona; it is not included in the Champions League statistics.

2021 and 2024: PSG turn the tide against Barça

In 2021, Paris took spectacular revenge with a 4-1 win in Barcelona, powered by a hat-trick from Kylian Mbappé, before confirming their qualification with a 1-1 draw in the return leg. In 2024, the tide turned again: beaten 3-2 at home in the first leg of the quarter-finals, Paris overturned Barça's advantage in Catalonia (4-1) and reached the semi-finals.

PSG have won their last two meetings ahead of the reunion

Their most recent meeting, on October 1, 2025, once again went in favor of the Ligue 1 club. Trailing in Barcelona, PSG snatched a 2-1 victory thanks to Gonçalo Ramos late in the game. Paris have therefore won their last two matches against Barça.
