Nigeria: Chelsea renews the contract of standout Nigerian player Chizaram Ezenwata!
Chelsea have made it official through a statement on their website: Chizaram Ezenwata, a striker who could also represent Nigeria, has committed his future to the club by signing a fresh contract that runs until at least June 2029.
The 18-year-old frontman has been turning heads within Chelsea's academy, thanks to his nimble footwork and ruthless finishing, further cementing his standing as one of the club's most exciting attacking talents.
Outstanding performance by the Nigerian player with Chelsea's youth team
Ezenwata's 2025/26 season with Chelsea's Under-18 team was nothing short of remarkable—he racked up 15 goals and laid on seven assists across 21 matches.
Those exploits saw him shortlisted for the Under-18 Premier League Player of the Season accolade.
Back in the 2024/25 campaign, the striker had already made his Premier League 2 debut in a fixture against Manchester City, and he has since gone on to accumulate further experience with Chelsea's development sides.
Internationally, Ezenwata has worn England's colours in youth-level competitions. That said, his Nigerian roots keep the door open for him to feature for the Super Eagles, which makes him a name the Nigeria Football Federation will want to keep an eye on as it looks to add firepower to the national team's attack.
As it happens, Nigeria are already tracking Ezenwata—he stopped by to see the Super Eagles during the 2025 Unity Cup, where he had the chance to meet head coach Eric Chelle. He was likewise handed an invitation to a Flying Eagles training camp in 2025, which speaks further to his connections with Nigerian football.
Playing for England at youth level does not lock him into representing the Three Lions at senior level, so the question of which nation he ultimately chooses remains a significant talking point as he keeps progressing at Chelsea.
