Negotiations between Beşiktaş and Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah have ultimately failed to reach a conclusion. Despite several weeks of discussions, both sides could not find common ground, with financial terms proving to be the stumbling block.

During a press conference held on Monday, Beşiktaş sporting director Önder Özen revealed that signing the captain of the Egyptian national team had been a top priority for the club ever since Italian coach Vincenzo Italiano arrived.

“We began discussions with Mohamed Salah as soon as Vincenzo Italiano was appointed. We held three meetings, during which we presented Beşiktaş’s sporting project and our vision for the future. The coach also spoke with him about technical and tactical matters,” Özen explained.

The Turkish official stated that sporting discussions took place in a very positive atmosphere. However, negotiations became complicated once the financial aspects entered the conversation.

“When we moved to the financial side, certain demands would have put the club in a difficult economic position. Such a scenario is simply unacceptable for Beşiktaş,” the sporting director stated.

Önder Özen went on to emphasize that the club would not stray from its principles.

“Mohamed Salah is a global star and we have tremendous respect for him. However, Beşiktaş has its own principles and financial discipline, which we will never compromise.”

In conclusion, the Black and Whites’ director confirmed that talks are currently suspended, but left the door open for negotiations to resume in the future.

“Negotiations are on hold for now, but our offer remains on the table. We also know the player is in talks with another party. The choice is his,” he concluded.
