Morocco: Mohamed Ouahbi calls up Ilias Akhomach to join the Atlas Lions

Ilias Akhomach has joined the Atlas Lions’ camp. The Villarreal winger was called up on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, by Mohamed Ouahbi to join the senior national team training camp at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation announced the Villarreal player’s call-up in a statement published on Tuesday. “The coach of the National ‘A’ Team, Mr. Mohamed Ouahbi, has called up Ilias Akhomach, a Villarreal player (Spain), to join the National ‘A’ Team’s training camp,” the federation stated.

Akhomach joins the squad

The call-up comes as the Atlas Lions continue their preparations for their upcoming match against Gabon. The Moroccan squad held another training session on Tuesday at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora.

The session, scheduled for late morning, focused on technical and tactical work, in line with the programme drawn up by Mohamed Ouahbi’s staff. Akhomach’s arrival completes the squad assembled for this international window.

Trained at FC Barcelona, the Moroccan international has played for Villarreal since 2023. His call-up gives Mohamed Ouahbi another opportunity to make use of his attacking qualities on the flanks.

Next session on Thursday in Rabat

The Atlas Lions will continue their preparations on Thursday, September 24, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat. The session will begin at 5:30 p.m., with its first 15 minutes open to the media.

Journalists in attendance will also be able to speak with some of the players in the mixed zone after the session.
