The AFCON 2025 final left a bitter aftertaste for Morocco, beyond just the defeat to Senegal. In a press conference, Walid Regragui confirmed some very bad news regarding Hamza Igamane, who was forced off with an injury after coming on during extra time.

Having only recently recovered from a previous injury, the forward was brought back into action in a high-pressure situation as Morocco tried to turn the final around. But just minutes after entering the pitch, he collapsed in agony, forced to leave the field in tears and leaving his teammates a man down.

The diagnosis from Regragui was grim:

"Hamza Igamane, I think he has suffered a cruciate ligament rupture. It’s not related to his previous injury. Wishing him a speedy recovery. He might be out for another six months this season."

A huge blow for the player, Morocco, and Lille OSC.
