Morocco–Senegal final controversy brings down CAF official

The crisis that erupted during the final of the latest Africa Cup of Nations, contested between Morocco and Senegal, has led to the downfall of a senior official at the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

CAF removes the president of its judicial bodies

According to information reported by the Moroccan outlet Al Botola, CAF General Secretary, Congolese official Véron Mosengo-Omba, has decided to dismiss Djiboutian Yacin Osman Robleh from his role as president of the judicial bodies, a position he had held for six years.

The same source indicates that this decision comes in the wake of the controversy sparked by several CAF rulings after the incidents that marred the tournament final hosted in Morocco.

The executive committee of the African body has meanwhile appointed Togolese Cédric Adjai, currently CAF’s director of legal affairs, as the interim replacement.

This shake-up has caused delays in the publication of several disciplinary decisions related to matches in African competitions, notably the case concerning the match between Al Ahly and AS FAR Rabat in the CAF Champions League.
